Performance of Rorem's Aftermath

Review

"Setting texts by poets from Shakespeare to Richard Eberhart, the composer has crafted a song cycle for baritone, violin, cello and piano which seizes upon many and various themes of war and peace, love and death. The instrumentation is colorful and the vocal line spans a very wide range. Randall Scarlata sang with power and warmth, his mastery of sustained notes and dynamic shifts as always very impressive. His voice rang into the hall, skillfully modulated and embracing the poetic nuances of the settings."
